1 John 2:12 (New King James Version)
Their Spiritual State
12 I write to you, little children,
Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.
Did you just come across this verse while reading your bible, and immediately worry crept into you?
You went through life only caring about personal gain.
And one day you put your childish ways behind you and realised that life is all about God, not you.
But as you try to live out your life for Christ, you start to feel jealous for God whenever you hear about God saving you for the sake of His glory.
It feels like something has stepped between God and you.
It might seem like a ridiculous concern, but it’s valid nonetheless.
Which matters more to God? His glory or you?
Let me introduce you to this verse:
Romans 8:38-39 (New King James Version)
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
It says here that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ.
Nothing can get between God’s love and us.
That includes His glory, or our glory.
I understand that the people who preach that life is all for the sake of His glory are trying to honour God.
But I believe it’s not right to say that glory is the priority of God.
Sure, glory is something that He is deeply concerned about.
But really? Our Christ sending God cares more about glory than His children?
Don’t get me wrong, living for God and His glory is much better.
But we can’t pretend that Jesus gave up much of His glory so that He could bring us to the Father.
I’m not saying humans are more important that God’s glory.
I’m saying that in God’s eyes, it’s not glory that He wants the most, it’s a relationship with His people that He wants the most.
Glory cannot get between God and us.
The most important thing is relationship, not glory.
Nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ.
