Every human has hobbies.
For my mother, she enjoys watching romance dramas. She finds that they make her wiser for life, and she is often moved to tears with the great storytelling.
My sister enjoys investing in her appearance. She researches deeply on her skincare routine and has a lot of makeup. Her fashion style is unique and effortless, and it’s a pleasure to stare at her.
As for me, I thoroughly enjoy bible journaling.
I have so many pretty pens, highlighters, markers and sticky notes. I have bought many stationery bags and cases for them, and I have at least seven kinds of journaling bibles.
And as you may expect, I’m always on the lookout for more of these things.
I often run out of money to get them, and have to pray to God for more money. Sometimes He says yes, and other times He says later. He never says no to me. More money always comes eventually.
And when the money is in my bank account, I get really excited.
I finish up bible study quickly, then rush to climb onto my bed.
I put YouTube videos about bible study in the background, and let loose on shopping for the cutest bible supplies I can get!
More often than not, I love shopping for supplies more than studying the bible itself.
The days where I spend the entire day with my nose in the bible are the days where I don’t have the money to go shopping.
Does this sound familiar?
Have you ever wondered about this:
What is money for?
Is money for the best stationery?
The best bag?
The best house, the best car? The best school?
Maybe you like fishing, and you want to get a new fishing rod.
Or you want to travel to a country you’ve never been to before.
Perhaps you want to buy that game, or those shoes you’ve been eyeing for months.
What is money for?
Matthew 6:24 (New International Version)
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Money is not for the next shiny thing in your shopping cart.
God gave us money for us to invest in our callings.
To invest in how to build ourselves up, so that we can then go on to build others up.
Money is for ministry, whether in the church or secular.
It is for us to preach the gospel with, not something for us to use to gratify our flesh.
Money came from God. It is a blessing.
And money is best used when it’s used for His glory.
Pause for a moment and log into your bank account.
Take a look at your statement. Where is most of your money going to?
What you spend the most money on reveals what your treasure is.
Friend, no one can serve two masters. It’s either God…
Or money.
Who do you serve?
