Did Jesus Die for Glory or Love?

Recently, I found myself wrestling over one question. I knew from reading the bible and watching Faith Womack’s videos on YouTube that God saved us for His glory. Before this, I always thought that God saved us solely because He loved us. Knowing that He saved us also for His name’s sake put a little bit of doubt in me. I asked “does God treasure His glory, or me more?”

Okay, that might sound very childish at first. I’m sorry.

But it got me thinking. Did Jesus die for me because He wanted glory, praise and worship? And love as a reason only took a backseat? Which mattered to Him more? I asked a sister in Christ, and she asked me how it would make Jesus feel if I thought He cared about His glory more than He cared about me. And that made me feel ashamed that I might’ve hurt His heart, because I doubted His love for me. ‘Cause really? After all Jesus did at Calvary? Haha.

But a few minutes earlier, the truth struck me and I want to share it with you because it might help strengthen your faith. Back in Jesus’ day, He often scolded the Pharisees and scribes for hypocrisy. Jesus did not look down on or speak against tax collectors or prostitutes, but He spoke against the Pharisees. He accused them of doing the right things for the wrong reasons. He said that everything they did was done for the praise of other people, and not because it sprung from an honest heart.

That clicked with me. Because I realised that Jesus is no hypocrite. God never lies. Sure, He saved us for His glory and praise, but definitely not solely for that reason. Love was honestly one of those reasons too. Loving us brought Jesus to the cross. And knowing this really puts peace in my heart.

Knowing Jesus didn’t want the glory of Heaven without us.
